Cardiac Rehabilitation Advocacy

CRNO’s Advocacy Mission is to advocate for 1) the continued and enhanced focus on cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation services with our local, provincial and national governments and 2) the expanded delivery of cardiovascular rehabilitation programs and services in Ontario so that each community has a cardiovascular rehabilitation program available within 30 minutes of individuals in need.

Through a multifaceted approach provided by a variety of health care professionals, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation

  • Reduces cardiovascular mortality by 26%   (2016 Cochrane review)
  • Reduces heart failure specific hospitalisations by 39%   (2014 Cochrane review)
  • Prevents unplanned cardiac readmissions by 28-56%
  • Improves quality of life, and reduces depression and anxiety
  • Is second only to aspirin and beta-blockers in terms of cost effectiveness   (Fidan et al. QJM 2007)
  • Is embedded in all Ontario MOHLTC Cardiac and Stroke Quality Based Procedures
